First Poll!

Please proceed to the bottom to take the second survey.

A few days ago, I sent out this poll to survey what you'd prefer for CY00.

Note that there were only 23 respondents, and this was not even a random sample, so let's take this with a grain of salt. (full results here)

How high should boss HP go?

Of the 18 users who didn't provide bogus answers, only one provided a choice not provided.

I calculated the geometric mean of their answers, and the average seems to be about 25 million.

Compared to the HP of the highest-level bosses, how high should end-game player HP go?

There were 19 valid responses. One of the "others" provided 0.01%; another provided 2.5%, which I shall round to 3%.

Again, I took the geometric mean, which resulted in an average of 4.5%. However, as the distribution of responses is quite skewed, I'll have to take this with a grain of salt too.

Should some bosses be able to "cheat"?

Sixty-five percent of the respondents said "yes". However, I am still a bit unsure on how to implement boss cheats. (No, Wizard101 is not open-source. :P)

Other than fire/water/earth/wind types, as well as no type at all, should there be any other classes of spells?

Sixty-one percent of the respondents answered "yes", though most of these were bogus answers. Let's go over the ones that aren't obvious follies (seven responses).
  • Dark, Light
  • Shadow Light Life
  • Death/life
    • Problem with these suggestions are that light is associated with wind and life is associated with earth. Dark is somewhat associated with fire or water.
  • Maybe chose a different series of spells to go out of the norm.
    • Wish I could, but mythology relies heavily on the system I mentioned.
  • Elsie's element list of 843 elements
    • Okay, this is a bit trollish, but I had to include this. The actual list doesn't exist, though.
  • Energy
    • Could potentially work as the neutral spell type (e. g. for damage modifiers that can affect any attack, or a spell that summons one for each type).
  • Fused types (fire/air, fire/earth, water/air, water/earth)
    • I was already planning on this.
Not so final verdict: Fused types won't go away, and energy will be the neutral spell type.  There will also be subclasses. For example, ice and mist are both subclasses of water. Water damage modifiers will affect them, but they will also enjoy damage modifiers of their own.

Should I bother myself with localization? Different bases?

70 and 87 percent, respectively. Surprisingly enough, some people wanted support for different numerical bases but not localization.
It's been the tendency for the CY project to support localization to some degree, so consider it on the list.

How to color digits so it's easy to read how large values are?

Sixteen people answered this question. Most of them were troll answers, but two people suggested scientific notation for large numbers, so I might use them for HP and damage values during battle. On the statistics screen, however, damage values will always be displayed in full.
One of my own thoughts is coloring each group of nine digits, going from purple, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, and red, and on each cycle making the colors lighter.

How big is your terminal?

No legitimate answers at all. This question was useless.
Some of you didn't know what a terminal even was.

How wide is the font you use on the terminal?

I asked this question so I could determine whether to make tiles one character wide or two. Given, however, that half the respondents didn't seem to know what a terminal was, I'm not trusting the data.

Thanks to everyone who completed the first survey. Answer the second survey here.
